Eli Brown & Son 1841 Snare Drum

The famous Eli Brown & Son labels start appearing in 1835 and continue until at least 1848. This drum’s label is Eli Brown & Son 1841, #2163. This drum is being sold “as is” at this price, it is not playable in this condition; contact us if you would like it in playing condition (new parts and labor would total around $300).

The shell size 17 ¾” dia. X 12 ½”, it has been cut down on both sides from its original size. The drum has been roped with hooks, but there are holes in the hoops; a hoop-mounted strainer is present with a leather anchor. The hoops are in generally good condition, with cracks at the gates on one side in the expected location; there is a hairline crack in the shell extending from the tack design. To be playable, the drum needs new heads, new rope, new snare gut, and 1 new ear.
